Bogor Agricultural Regreening Program: the Planting of 1000 Bintaro Tree Seedlings

Totaled 43 (foruty three) students majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology IPB implemented the  regreening program by planting 1000 (thousand)  Bintaro tree seedlings, on  Saturday, 19 February 2011, at  Darmaga Campus.

The program was officially  opened by the Chairman of Student Association of Civil and Environmental Engineering (HIMATESIL), Rahmat Kurniawan. "the program was designed to demonstrate to university community  how to protect and restore their environment, as well as to plan the research plots for the future. Nevertheless, it is actually to assist the university to repond the environmental problems such as  global warming and air pollution, "said Rahmat. This activity is expected to inspire students and other people to be aware and may contribute their best effort  for  environmental conservation, both in thought and action.

Prof.Dr.Ir Budi I. Setiawan, Lecturer of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of IPB stated that this program is expected to be the stimulus for environmental awareness movement. "In addition, to be the oxygen producer, in the future similar to the oil palm, Bintaro fruit will becoming other source of energy as an alternative fuels," explained Prof. Budi.

3 (three) planting plots within the the Darmaga campus for this regreening program were set up, namely Leuwikopo with 300 (three hundred) seedlings,  Gymnasium areas with 400 (four hundred) seedlings, and the Male Dormitory areas with 300 (three hundred) seedlings. Bintaro was selected as the regreening plant as this species does not  require special treatment, it will survive from pests infestation. The fruit of this plant is  toxic, and its toxicity is dangerous for living things. (Wied).
